Trimmed and translated
Engine change
The original game was made in the SugarCube story format, it was not necessary, it used exactly none of the engine's features.
Re-writing the game as a simple HTML page shrunk its size from 566kB to 17kB (excluding assets) and only took a few hours.
French translation
It is something I had been meaning to do for a while, it is done now.
The 498 English words have been turned into 442 French ones.
I had always assumed French would be the more verbose language - and it is the case in term of characters - but I often felt a need to write less when making the translated version.
It is not exactly a faithful translation either, more of a localization. When I was translating Session the author remarked on the characters feeling more vindictive, it was true but I felt some things would not make sense to a French-speaking audience. I do believe that not every story can be told as is in every language.
This has been my long-standing gripe with modern translation works which emphasize faithfulness at the cost of literary quality and clarity. The sentence-to-sentence narration ends up feeling disjointed, the whole story, stiff and unnatural. Maybe it's just me...
Other changes
- improved the day/night transition effect
- added bespoke favicon
- improved the divider's looks
- improved small screen presentation
